HMS Victory

Today we went to Portsmouth via train for a day trip to a historic harbor. There, at the dry dock, is the HMS Victory, and those of you who have read the Jacky Faber books, you should know of what ship I'm talking about. It's a British war ship from 1790 ish, which fought at the battle of Trafalgar. They've restored it, and now you can go inside and look at it how it used to be. You can tell it's a war ship, because it has cannons everywhere, and I mean everywhere. That thing has 100 guns, and there're not all on the gun decks only. The captain's windows open for cannons, and there are cannons stored under all the hammocks. Everywhere you look there's a weapon. We also saw the cat o'nine tails.
It's exactly as I would have imagined from reading the Jacky Faber books, but in real life. The powder monkeys have to be small, because they have to run through tiny little doorways, and up ladder-like steps as fast as they can.
We got a family pass to the harbor there, which also has a bunch of other stuff that we didn't do today including the HMS Warrior, the first iron-hulled and half steam powered ship from 1870. We went to a climbing wall place which was included in our pass today as well, but I think we'll come back again later to do all the stuff that we missed.
